Sharpening Turning Tools

A combination of the Tool Guide Bar and the Turning and Carving Tool Jig enable one to sharpen a wide variety of tools. The Lap-Sharp choices of abrasives allow one to hone a very sharp edge using fine abrasives. The sharpening process is very quick and easily repeated.

The pivoting clamp is used for sharpening fingernail and roughing gouges. Both large and small gouges can be sharpened with the jig and tool holder. Sharpen roughing gouges using the stop block method to keep a straight grind of the edge.

Scrapers can easily be given a near mirror finish on the top flat side, and then honed on the bevel edge using the Tool Guide Bar. Use the tool guide bar to help in maintaining the angle of the cutting edge. Hold round scrapers against the tool guide bar with one finger and pivot the handle to achieve a perfectly shaped and honed cutting edge.

Skews can be hand held against the Tool Guide Bar or Turning and Carving Tool Jig support arm to quickly reestablish a fine edge. They can also be placed in the tool clamp for sharpening.
